The projection of the moon shed a tear for the friend she lost.
Within her, there was a stirring feeling she could not explain.
The last words she spoke to Saya were meant in earnest. Though their time had come to an end, she felt relieved to have been able to speak her truth while Saya still held breath. If not, she knew she would have regretted her abstinence for the rest of her life.
Her appearance was no longer the same as when she had first set foot on the dead planet. Rather than carrying a pure white color bright enough to emit its own glow, she transformed her appearance to carry on the memories of the person Saya loved most.
“I know I can never be him,” her ethereal voice echoed.
Still, she felt the urge to carry on his name. Not out of duty, but out of desire.
Letting out a long sigh, her shoulders deflated.
“In another life, we would have loved longer.”
Regret lingered in her voice. She had interacted with other humans in the past, but never developed her relationships beyond acquaintanceship.
So the fact that she shed tears for someone she met merely a week ago was surprising even to her. Had she known this was how she would feel about the young mage, she would have projected a thousand years earlier.
If only…
“If only I wasn’t so dumb.”
“Rest in peace.”
“I love you, Saya.”
