Epilogue 1
A cold room. A grumbling stomach.
Curled into a ball, Evi tried her best to stay alive. Nearly three days had passed. The entire town was filled with people in uniforms similar to Cynthia's. There were times when she was nearly caught, barely managing to keep herself tucked away.
Light barely spilled into the empty classroom, and the stone floor felt icy to the touch. Despite her suffering, she still held onto hope that her savior’s words would come to matter before long.
She clutched her stomach hard, as doing so would temporarily make her forget about her hunger. Every fiber of her being told her to leave the school and hunt for at least one meal, but doing so would compromise her.
During her moment of weakness, she had indulged herself and was discovered by Rom and Cynthia. She wanted to avoid that kind of situation from occurring ever again. Deep down, she wished she had stayed with the two Testaments until their last breaths.
But she knew she wouldn’t have left the rooftop if she had. In that moment of weakness, she had to leave behind what she cared about most.
She had nobody left to talk to.
Just as tears started to form, she heard loud clicks coming from the classroom entrance. Like a cockroach, she quickly scurried to the edge of the room in order to conceal herself. This wasn’t the first time someone had checked on the school, and it was most definitely not going to be the last.
However, when she peeked her head slightly through the window, she noticed that the silhouette wore clothes that resembled nothing like a Testament's.
He had a wine red vest and a dirty white shirt underneath. His pants were black khakis, and oddly enough, he wore sports shoes. His hair was blonde, but not as golden as hers. Adjusting his glasses, the strange man entered the classroom.
Evi bared her fangs and claws. If she was going to be threatened, she might as well try getting a feast first.
“Evi, right?” His voice was deep but energetic.
The vampire remained silent, keeping her guard raised.
“Rom sent me. I know you might not believe me, but he wanted me to keep you safe for as long as you want.”
“You see, I owe him a lot. Think of this as me repaying my debts to him.”
“You. Betray.” Evi replied, still unsure of the man’s motives.
“Ahh, yeah. I can see why you’d think I’d do that. Honestly, you don’t have to come with me. You’re a vampire, so I’m sure you’ll be able to survive on your own out there. But let me tell you one thing.”
“If you run, it won’t just be the Testaments hunting for you.”
Startled at his sudden shift in tone, Evi backed herself into a wall.
“So, what’ll it be? Evi Rosenthaal?”
“Who. You?”
“Oh, my bad!” he burst into laughter, putting his glasses back on.
“My name is Kos Livyathan from the Dreamfall Detection Agency.”
“Nice to meet ya.”
Finally lowering her hands, Evi accepted her face.
“Good job. Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to treat you like a father. I owe it to Rom.”
With a heavy heart, Evi replied.
<I already have a father.>
